Pakistan eliminated from T20 World Cup 2024

Pakistan were eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2024 on Friday after the match between the United States and Ireland was called off due to a wet outfield at the Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill, Florida.

The US had already played three matches, starting the tournament with a win against Canada and defeating Pakistan last week.

Despite the ground staff’s efforts to dry the wet outfield, a heavy downpour dashed any hopes of play after the umpires inspected the conditions.

Ireland had played two matches during the tournament, facing India and Canada but losing both.

The US defeated Canada and Pakistan in their first two matches, while Pakistan lost to both the US and India.

With the match abandoned without a single ball bowled, both the US and Ireland were awarded one point each.

The USA advanced to the Super 8 of the World Cup with five points. India also qualified from Group A, while Pakistan, Ireland, and Canada will head home after completing their group matches.

Pakistan has one more match against Ireland, but it will be a dead rubber as they are now out of the tournament.

In the last two editions, Pakistan reached the semi-final in 2021, where they lost to Australia. In 2022, despite a poor start, they reached the final but lost to England at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Pakistan have played in the T20 World Cup semi-final six times – in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2021, and 2022 – the most by any team. This will be their first group-stage exit since 2016 and only their third overall.
