PARIS – An American athlete who lost both of his legs has triumphed in the 400-meter race at the Paris Paralympics, securing a gold medal.
Twenty-five-year-old Wood Hall, a three-time Paralympic medalist, completed the race in 46.32 seconds, clinching the top spot. His victory adds to the family’s growing collection of accolades, as his wife, Tara Davis-Wood, also won a gold medal in the women’s long jump event at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Wood Hall expressed his immense joy, stating that he is thrilled to have two gold medals in the family. In addition to his 400-meter gold, Wood Hall was also part of the U.S. team that won a bronze medal in the 4×100 meter relay.
At just 11 months old, Wood Hall had both of his lower legs amputated due to a medical condition. He first met Tara during high school, and although they later went their separate ways for higher education—Tara attending Georgia University and then Texas University, while Wood Hall remained at Texas—they reconnected and bonded over their shared passion for sports.
Married on October 16, 2022, the couple has become a symbol of love and determination in the sports world. Their achievements were celebrated at the Paris Olympics, where Tara’s inspiring performances were cheered on by her husband, who was seen passionately supporting her from the stands.
