KARACHI – WhatsApp users in Pakistan are facing issues while using mobile data services as Instagram, Messenger and other sites are facing disruption amid protest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in Rawalpindi.
The development comes along with closure of key roads in Rawalpindi amid protest at Liaquat Bagh, while traffic also remains disrupted for residents of twin city. Thousands of police are deployed, and Section 144 is in effect, banning gatherings and weapon displays. The metro bus service has also been partially suspended.
Besides road closure, WhatsApp users also encountered significant difficulties on Saturday when attempting to send media files over mobile data. Today on Saturday, there were reports of disruption from early morning 10:00am.
A large number of users reported disruption on Downdetector, and other internet monitoring platforms. These platforms are working fine on WiFi networks while on data services, people are facing issues on sending audio, video content and other files.
The outage is similar to last Saturday disruption when WhatsApp and other platfroms faced issues amid rally. The country of 242 million has faced ongoing internet service challenges, including, denting business and digital platforms.
The government spokesperson has not commented on the fresh disruptions and more details are yet to surface about it.
