ISLAMABAD – Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar claimed that the government has attained the required majority to pass the constitutional amendment package.
While referring to ongoing talks with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, he said the government was trying to develop a consensus on the constitutional amendment.
He said taking all political parties on board in the consultation process is the beauty of democracy as well as duty of the government.
“Government is giving preference to political consensus despite having the required majority for the constitutional amendment,” state broadcaster quoted him as having said.
The Minister said efforts are being to complete the consultation process today in any case.
Responding to a question, Tarar said there was a zero tolerance policy for the elements who try to create chaos and disrupt peace in the country.
He said no NRO will be given to any national criminal and elements involved in spreading fake news regarding molestation case have been traced.
On the other hand, time for starting the session of Senate and National Assembly has been push forward for twice amid efforts to woo Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
The 26th amendment proposes formation constitutional bench, role of parliament in appointment of chief justice of Pakistan, fixing CJP tenure to three years and restructuring Supreme Judicial Council.
