DUBLIN – Fuel prices in Ireland have come down for October, despite imposition of additional taxes as part of Budget 2025, which includes an automatic surge in several taxes in Carbon Tax.
For the current month, the average price for petrol was slashed by 2 cents to €1.72 per litre, while diesel prices moved down by 1 cent to €1.66 per litre, in a third drop in recent weeks.
The primary reason for this drop is decrease in crude oil prices, currently hovering around $74 per barrel. As Middle East tensions and Russian Ukraine war pushed oil prices in previous month, the prices remained stable.
Electric vehicle owners are enjoying savings from recent fuel price drops, with annual costs averaging €808.64 for about 17,000 kilometers, a reduction of €49 this month. Jennifer Kilduff from AA Ireland noted that reduced rates from Energia and upcoming cuts from Electric Ireland will benefit EV drivers.
Petroleum products are contributing highest fuel taxes in Europe while falling oil prices help now, significant increases could result in sharp price hikes at the pumps, affecting consumers.
