WASHINGTON (Web Desk) – The harrowing experience of 66-year old hiker, who was found 2 years after being reported missing, has been found documented in a journal that she used to record her 26 days of survival on the hard Appalachian Trail.
Geraldine Largay from Tennessee, who went missing on the Appalachian Trail, left a heartbreaking note to whoever found her remains, urging them to call her husband and daughter to tell them that she had died.
In one torn-out page, dated August 6, Largay wrote: “When you find my body, please call my husband George and my daughter Kerry.”
“It will be the greatest kindness for them to know that I am dead and where you found me – no matter how many years from now,” the note added.
A report compiled later on the incident says that Largay attempted to text her husband after getting lost, but the messages never went through.
The last entry in Largay’s journal, dated on August 28 2013, reveals that she survived for at least 26 days after getting lost.
She used her on-hand survival kit during her month-long ordeal before dying from a lack of food and exposure.
