LAHORE – At least 14 children were killed and several others injured after the roof of a school academy collapsed in Lahore’s Kahna area on Tuesday.
According to Rescue 1122, the children were attending a tuition class when the roof of the classroom suddenly caved in, trapping many students beneath the debris.
Initial reports said more than 25 children and one teacher were buried under the rubble. Rescue officials confirmed that 14 children lost their lives, while the condition of eight to 10 others is reported to be critical.
Rescue authorities said the collapsed roof had been constructed using T-R girders. They added that the full extent of the damage and casualties will be determined after rescue operations are completed.
The incident claimed the lives of several children, including 7-year-old Mah Noor Farooq, 7-year-old Rimsha Atif, 5-year-old Murtaza Atif, 9-year-old Ghulam Nabi, 6-year-old Tabisha Shehzad, 16-year-old Khadija, daughter of Wasim, 6-year-old Salman, son of Wasim, and 8-year-old Fawad, son of Abid.
According to THQ Kahna Hospital, the condition of six injured victims is stable. Among those receiving treatment are 8-year-old Abiha, 10-year-old Faria, 11-year-old Murtaza, 8-year-old Ayan, and 7-year-old Rabia, while 30-year-old Hamida Rehan is also being treated and is reported to be out of danger.
