NEW DELHI (News Desk) – Tired of unfulfilled election promises, residents of an Indian village have constructed a 1.5-kilometer road on their own, at a cost 100 times cheaper than what the government had previously estimated.
According to Indian media, the inhabitants of Larahi village in the Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand took matters into their own hands after waiting nearly a decade for the construction of a road in their area. As a result of the efforts of 50 people, the road was completed in four months.
The government had estimated that over 58 crore Indian Rupees would have been required to construct the road; however, the villagers completed the construction of the road and a bridge over the Koina river in only 50 lakhs.
The villagers had been demanding construction of the road since 1996.
