KARACHI (Web Desk) – Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has said that he hopes to force his way back into contention for the national cricket team.
According to media reports, the 36-year-old telephoned Pakistan cricket team’s head coach Mickey Arthur and discussed a number of team-related issues with him, including the Green Shirts’ key strengths and weaknesses.
He said the country was not producing fine cricketers like it had in the past after shifting its focus from quality to quantity. He urged the management to focus on producing quality cricketers.
The former captain was not included in an ongoing boot camp ahead of Pakistan’s tour of England, which begins in July, and many pundits have suggested that it is time the swashbuckling all-rounder throw in the towel on his decades long career.
Afridi had earlier issued a video apology to the cricket-mad nation after Pakistan exited the exciting WorldT20 tournament in the group stages. After the tournament, a report by head coach Waqar Younis that slammed Afridi’s leadership style was leaked to the media. Waqar Younis has since been sacked.
