LAHORE – Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) busted illegal internet distribution networks operating in Lahore, arresting two individuals and confiscating telecom equipment.
The joint operation was carried out by PTA Lahore Zonal Office in collaboration with the FIA Corporate Crime Circle (CCC) Lahore, targeting illegal internet setups in Javed Colony, Ghazi Road, Lahore.
During raids, authorities took action against two internet service setups — M/s Chabariya Internet Service and M/s Brother Cable Net — where officials found unauthorized internet distribution systems being operated without a valid PTA license.
According to officials, both locations were illegally providing internet cable and wireless services. Two suspects were arrested during the operation, including the owner of one of the setups, while technical equipment used for the unlicensed services was seized.
PTA officials said the crackdown is part of a nationwide campaign to eliminate illegal telecom networks that not only compromise service quality for consumers but also cause losses to the national economy through tax evasion and inaccurate revenue reporting.
The telecom regulator has warned citizens against using unlicensed internet providers, saying such connections can be shut down without notice and may leave users facing sudden service disruptions.
PTA urged consumers to subscribe only to internet services offered by licensed operators and verify providers through the list available on its official website.
