Frogs married in India for rain

ASSAM (Web Desk) – Villagers in Jorhat district celebrated an arranged marriage of frogs to appease the Hindu god of water and the celestial ocean, Varuna.

Hundreds of people gathered at the ceremony to celebrate the wedding and pray for rains in the region.

Two groups of women separately bath the males and female frogs, and then dress them in clothes and jewellery for the wedding.

The bride is even made to wear a handmade necklace during the ritual.

According to a Hindu mythological belief, frogs caught and married off with traditional rituals appease Varuna. It will in turn bring rain to the region.

Farmers in Assam are facing a drought-like situation as the state has not seen rains in over a week.
