Pakistani teen lifts gold in Commonwealth Youth Weightlifting Championship

PENANG – Pakistan’s Talha Talib has won gold medal in Commonwealth Youth Weightlifting Championship in Malaysia, lifting 258 kg weight to beat his Indian opponent in the 62-kg category.

Talib beat 26 opponents to clinch the gold medal at the event in Malaysian city of Penang.

The 17-year-old weightlifter from Gujranwala, Punjab, had to settle for silver at the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games after losing the final to an Indian counterpart.

Indian athlete Navi Gulam lifted 252kg to take silver, while another from Nauro lifted 215kg to take bronze medal.

Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWF) Vice-President Muhammad Rashed Malik hailed Talha’s performance as well as his incredible hard work to get to this point.
