PM Nawaz assures COAS Gen Bajwa of addressing army s reservations on Dawn Leaks controversy

ISLAMABAD – After Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has succeeded in easing tension between civil and military leadership,  Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif last night and discussed army’s reservations on action in Dawn Leaks case.

During an hour long-meeting, the prime minister agreed to address the reservations about the findings of the inquiry committee in the case and assured that new notification will be issued in this regard.

The prime minister promised that army’s reservations about the finding of the report would be taken into consideration.

The civil-military rift grew further after DG ISPR Maj-Gen Asif Ghafoor refused a government’s notification about the leaks on Twitter.

DG ISPR tweeted, “Notification on Dawn Leak is incomplete and not in line with recommendations by the Inquiry Board. Notification is rejected.”

Later, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali termed the tweet as poisonous for democracy.

The tension drove the PM to hold a meeting with his key ministers, including Chaudhry Nisar Ali and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, and his brother Shehbaz Sharif to look into the matter. During the meeting, Nawaz Sharif reportedly tasked Shehbaz Sharif and ministers with defusing the growing tension.
