Three killed as car plunges into canal

KHANEWAL – Three persons drowned as their car fell into Shujabad Canal due to over-speeding near Bhatta Kot area of tehsil Kabirwala, early Wednesday.

On receiving information of the incident, rescue teams reached the spot and started rescue operation.

The rescue teams recovered bodies of Jaffar, Pervez and car driver Mairaj, and shifted them to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Kabirwala from where the bodies were handed over to the heirs.

Last month, at least five persons, including two children were killed and 20 were injured after a passenger van fell into a ravine in an area near Lower Dir.

According to local media, the vehicle went out of control due to high speed and fell into a deep gorge. Around 30 passengers were travelling in the bus.

Rescue teams reached the spot and started retrieving dead bodies and injured from the ravine.

The injured including children and women have been shifted to a hospital, while some are in a critical state.

On April 30, at least 11 were killed and several injured after a bus swerved off a mountain road and fell into a deep gorge near Lowari Pass (or Lowari Top) while going to Chitral from Upper Dir.
