Sharifs rope in four lawyers to confront JIT report before SC

ISLAMABAD – The ruling Sharif family currently embroiled in Panama Leaks case has hired four lawyers to submit a reply to the Supreme Court in the purview of report formulated by Joint Investigation Team.

According to Geo News, Khawaja Harris will head the team of lawyers, which also includes Amjad Pervez, considered an expert on cases related to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

According to sources privy to developments, the JIT report includes a list of 28 cases against the Sharif family in NAB.

Moreover, two cases are in the Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan and as many with the Federal Investigation Agency, according to the JIT report submitted by the six-member team on Monday.

The Supreme Court’s special implementation bench has set July 17 as the next date of hearing in the Panama Papers case and it is likely that the ruling family would once again try to fob off allegations with the new legal team.

Top-Level Huddle at PM House

Soon after the report by the Joint Investigation Team apparently jolted ‘House of Sharif’ deliberations are in full swing by the prime minister and his colleagues to draft a strategy to thwart the ongoing crises.

According to media reports, chief minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif met interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and then he went to PM house to meet his elder brother Nawaz Sharif.

The prime minister is also expected to be briefed by his close aides and legal experts today. He has also asked the governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair to meet him.

On Tuesday, a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif decided that the premier will neither resign nor dissolve the assemblies, contrary to the popular perception.
