UN chief condemns terrorist attack in Peshawar

NEW YORK – United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned the terrorist attack on an institution’s hostel in Peshawar in which nine people were killed and over 30 injured.

In a statement issued by his Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric on Friday, “The Secretary-General extends his condolences to the bereaved families and to the government and people of Pakistan. He wishes a speedy recovery to the injured”.

The statement follows an attack carried out by Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants targeting a hostel of Agriculture Training Institute (ATI) in Peshawar on Friday when Eid Milad-un-Nabi was being celebrated.

The terrorists who were wearing a burqa crashed into the dormitory of the institution and killed at least nine people and injured 37.

As the attack was reported, a heavy contingent of police, FC and Pakistan Army reached the site. Security forces launched operation and killed the militants, who were according to police and military officials were in contact with their handlers in Afghanistan.

During the clearance operation, the security officials recovered three suicide jackets and 20 hand grenades and other weapons.
