LAHORE – Pakistan’s legendary singer turned religious scholar Junaid Jamshed Khan is being remembered on his 1st death anniversary today (Thursday).
Junaid Jamshed and his wife Nayha Junaid died in a tragic plane crash near Havelian district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on December 7th, last year after he flew off from Chitral via PK-661 flight after attending Tableeghi Jamaat’s congression.
Born on September 3, 1964, Jamshed shot to fame as a recording artist, television personality, fashion designer, occasional actor, and singer-songwriter. The UET-graduate took his solo rock flight at Peshawar University and Islamabad University in 1983.
Jamshed first gained national prominence and international recognition as band ‘Vital Signs’ vocalist in 1987 with the album, ‘Vital Signs 1’. The album topped the Music Channel Charts across the country.
The album included the number one single Dil Dil Pakistan, and Tum Mil Gaye. The commercial success of Vital Signs’ first album helped develop Pakistan’s rock music industry.

In 1994, he released his debut solo album’Junaid of Vital Signs’ which too became a national hit quickly, followed by ‘Us Rah Par’ in 1999 and ‘Dil Ki Baat’ in 2002.
In 2004, Jamshed left both his engineering and music career and, since then, had focused on his religious activities for Islam while reciting Naats on TV and releasing them through CD’s. His debut religious album, Jalwa-e-Janan was released in 2005 and was followed by Mehboob-e-Yazdaan in 2006, Badr-ud-Duja in 2008, and Badee-uz-Zaman in 2009.
Over the years, Jamshed built a massive following as a preacher, also earning a spot in popular prime-time shows during the holy month of Ramazan.
He had also launched a clothing line by the name ‘J.’, a brand that takes pride in selling what it calls modest women’s clothing and without using models for advertisement.
The televangelist left his fans in despair on this day, last year when the PIA flight carrying 48 people on board crashed.
