LAHORE – In a major development, the Punjab police at last arrested the main accused in Zainab rape-slay case after 14 days and today (Wednesday) he will be produced before an anti-terrorism court in Lahore.
The accused identified as Imran, who was arrested after his DNA matched the samples taken from the crime scene, will be produced before ATC Judge Sajjad Ahmad, while strict security measures have been taken.
Talking to private news channel Punjab government spokesperson Malik Ahmad Khan said that DNA report of the accused and his statement will be submitted to the court. He said that the culprit will be awarded exemplary punishment.
Punjab CM Confirms Arrest
On Tuesday evening, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that the rapist and killer of seven-year-old girl from Kasur has been arrested.
A 24-year-old man arrested earlier in the day is the murderer of Kasur rape-murder victim, the CM said while referring to him as a “serial killer”.

“Zainab’s murderer has been caught. His name is Imran. He is 24-year-old resident of Kasur and he is a serial killer,” Shehbaz said.
Zainab was kidnapped from near her aunt’s house on January 4 in Kasur. Her body was recovered from a garbage heap on January 9. The post-mortem of the minor revealed that she had been raped before being murdered.
During the press conference, Shehbaz said that he would suggest public execution for the culprit if the law allows it. He said, “I request the chief justice to ensure swift justice and exemplary punishment to the innocent girl’s murderer.”
In response, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah said that the case will be heard on daily basis, adding that the court concerned has been directed in this regard.
