Huawei to launch under-screen fingerprint sensor in upcoming Mate device

SHENZHEN – Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei has planned to feature the under-display fingerprint sensor in upcoming Mate 11 or Mate 20 device.

The company is planned to launch new Mate device in the second half of this year featured with Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint solution, reported DigiTimes.

The California-based company; Qualcomm has developed ultrasonic fingerprint reader solutions in collaboration with Chinese O-fil Tech and Taiwanese GIS.

The system can work through 800-micron glass, whereas traditional sensors can’t operate when covered with more than 300 microns of glass. The new solution is also said to be extremely accurate at reading wet fingerprints which is a shortcoming of traditional sensors and can even function underwater.
