Men’s Hockey: India qualify for semis as Pakistan pull out of CW 2018 Games

GOLD COAST – Pakistan men’s hockey team was expelled from the race to the semifinals at the ongoing Commonwealth Games hockey tournament after England and India brushed aside Wales and Malaysia respectively on Tuesday.

The pool B chart is now topped by England and India with seven points each whereas New Zealand and Australia have qualified for the semifinal from men’s Pool A with nine points each.

Pakistan has not winded up its matches yet as it would face Malaysia on April 11, however, even if Pakistan win, it would not qualify for  the semifinals. Both Pakistan and Malaysia currently have three points each.

Pakistan have drawn all three of the matches. They leveled the match against Wales 1-1, 2-2 against India and 2-2 against England on Sunday.

The semifinals will take place in Gold Coast, Australia on Wednesday (tomorrow).

Uptill now, Pakistan has managed to grab two Bronze medals in the CommonWealth Games as weightlifter Nooh Dastagir Butt took part in the 105+kilogramme weight category. The other medal was won by Taha Talib who won a bronze medal for Pakistan in men’s 62kg weightlifting competition.
