KUWAIT – There are rare times when we come across a commercial that hits a chord in our hearts like no other. We may stop and count our blessings but let us not turn a blind eye towards the ones who are trying to find a single blessing to count at this time of crisis. Palestine, Burma and many such other countries are daily facing the horror of uncalled death and loss.
Kuwaiti telecoms company Zain’s latest Ramadan television advertisement features a young refugee boy singing to lookalikes of some the world’s most powerful leaders including Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Angela Merkel.
In the beginning, Donald Trump is invited by the young angelic boy to have Iftar with him at his house. The boy is not sure if he will be alive to welcome him.
Mr Putin is seen dining with his family. We can see a family member on a wheelchair while Putin follows the child.
Ms Merkel is seen watching the refugees escape for their life.
Kim Jong-un is seen standing helpless and ashamed while the boy’s room is turned into nothing but debris.
The tears are truly hard to watch.
As a ray of hope, a lookalike of Ahed Al Tamimi, the 17-year-old Palestinian activist sentenced to eight months in jail by Israel makes an appearance too when the boy is seen breaking the lock and freeing her.
Zain’s latest advertisement was released on Wednesday, two days after the US administration transferred its embassy to Jerusalem, reversing decades of policy by declaring the Holy City Israel’s capital.
The conclusion of the video shows the boy with Ahed Al Tamimi flanked by six men wearing traditional Arabian Gulf clothes, representing the six leaders of the GCC countries.
If this is not a strong enough message, then what else would it take?
