Manzoor Afridi named as caretaker chief minister of KP

PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and opposition have reached consensus over the name of the caretaker chief minister.

Both sides have agreed over the name of Manzoor Afridi, which was suggested by the KP CM Pervez Khattak and Leader of the Opposition Maulana Lutfur-Rehman, local media reported.

Manzoor, who is a non-political person, hails from Khyber Agency in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) a region going to be part of KP as National Assembly and Senate have passed a constitutional amendment in this regard.

He is also the younger brother of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Ayub Afridi and first cousin of Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi.

As the federal and provincial governments are going to complete their five-year terms, efforts have been expedited to select the persons for caretaker setup. KP government is the first which has selected the name after consulting the opposition, while there is a deadlock between federal government and opposition.
