ISLAMABAD – Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar pitched a proposal before the authorities in Islamabad to demolish the illegal structure of Gun and Country Club within ten days.
During the hearing of a case regarding the illegal construction of marriages halls at the said facility, the top judge was informed by the Club’s counsel that former chief executive Pervez Musharraf had given the permission for allotment of land.
To this, the CJP asked as to why former dictator Pervez Musharraf did not return to Pakistan to answer for misdeeds he had committed during his regime.
The former dictator had no authority even to allot a single kiosk, but he took over the powers of the country’s administrator after breaking the Constitution, the CJP observed on Tuesday.
‘Musharraf was a usurper. He had no mandate or authority to award the land without the CDA’s approval,’ the judge remarked.
Mian Saqib Nisar observed that the shooting club was established for Safe Games, but questioned what was happening there currently.
Why not the club was closed and its land was allotted to the Polyclinic hospital as the facilities there were only for the rich, he observed.
At one point, Justice Nisar ordered immediate demolition of the marquee but Additional Attorney General (AAG) Nayyar Abbas Rizvi objected and said, Islamabad could host the SAF Games at any time.
“If it is an illegal structure it should be demolished and the land should be given to Polyclinic,” the CJP said.
The AAG also informed the court that the marquee was built when Faisal Sakhi Butt was the administrator of the club during the last Pakistan Peoples Party government.
The court also summoned Butt as well as the club’s first administrator Lt Gen Arif Hassan and Daniyal Aziz, who remained GCC administrator during the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government.
It also the CDA board to decide the application of Club and asked the Club administration to satisfy it on the issue of land. The court adjourned the case till July 9.
