Joint opposition nominates Shehbaz Sharif for PM slot

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Marriyum Aurangzeb on Monday told media that the joint opposition has finalised the name of party president Shehbaz Sharif as their candidate for the prime minister slot.

Addressing media in the federal capital, the PML-N leader said that the opposition parties will jointly protest outside Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) office on August 8 against the institution’s “incapacity and incompetence” to hold free and fair elections.

Former information minister Marrium Aurangzeb told media after the meeting the party was in contact with independent MPA-elects, adding that PML-N would not engage in horse trading.

On Saturday, the joint opposition also decided to field the former Punjab chief minister as their candidate for the PM s slot. The Pakistan People s Party (PPP) has already nominated Khursheed Shah for the post of National Assembly speaker.

The joint opposition announced to stage protest against election results on August 8 in Islamabad and on August 9 across the country.

The leaders named the opposition as ‘Pakistan Alliance for Free and Fair Election’ and also finalised the candidates for prime minister, speaker and deputy speaker posts.
