Hamza Shehbaz leads protest outside Punjab Assembly against Speakers conduct

LAHORE – Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, the son of former chief minister Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif led a protest outside the Punjab Assembly along with scores of lawmakers on Friday.

The opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly – accompanied by lawmakers including Azma Bukhari and Malik Nadeem Kamran – decried the role of Speaker Pervez Elahi in maintaining order in the house, saying he was involved in the Lahore Ring Road scam as well.

‘The allotment of Ring Road was changed in order to usurp the land,’ alleged the politician and said that Pervaiz Elahi used derogatory remarks against the women.

He continued that the police officials were not permitting the entry of six of the legislators belonging to Pakistan Muslim league Nawaz in the Punjab Assembly.

‘We will stage a massive protest if our members are insulted in this manner,’ said Hamza.

Regarding the previous boisterous session of the assembly in which the budget was presented, Hamza claimed that a doctored picture was issued which displayed documents tattered into pieces, calling for an inquiry into the matter.

‘Speaker’s role is to take the opposition on board as well,’ said Hamza and highlighted that the Speaker National Assembly sad Qaiser issued production orders for Shehbaz Sharif.

The PML-N leader expressed that not a single evidence was presented in the case in which Shehbaz Sharif was taken into custody by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The protest was staged as the Speaker Punjab Assembly had barred entry of lawmakers from PML-N for creating disturbance in the house during the previous session; the politicians include Tariq Masih Gill, Yaseen Amir, Ashraf Rasul, Zaib un Nisa, Mirza Javed and Malik Waheed.
