PPP to vote for PML-N candidates in Senate polls

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Peoples Party has decided to support the nominee of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in the by-polls for two Senate seats in Punjab.

PPP Punjab chapter’s information secretary, Syed Hassan Murtaza said on Friday that after internal consultations party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari had decided that the PPP MPAs would vote for the N League candidates in elections.

Two Senate seats went vacant when the Supreme Court disqualified PML-N senators Haroon Akhtar Khan and Saadia Abbasi; they had been elected for a six-year term in March this year.

(elected against a general seat)  (elected against a seat reserved for women).

Polling for the two seats will be held in the Punjab Assembly on Nov 15 and PPP has seven legislators in the provincial house.

The PML-N has awarded tickets to former senator Saud Majeed and ex-federal minister Saira Afzal Tarar while the ruling PTI has fielded Waleed Iqbal and sister of Jahangir Tareen, Seemi Ezdi.

In an earlier contest for a Senate seat last month, PTI nominee Dr Shahzad Waseem had won by securing 181 out of 351 votes against PML-N’s Khwaja Ahmed Hassaan who secured 169 votes with the help of the PPP.
