Pakistani pilgrims stranded at Baghdad airport return after 4 days

ISLAMABAD – Pakistani pilgrims, who had been stuck at Baghdad airport for the last four days, flew back to the country on Saturday after the Pakistani embassy reached out for their help.

The arrival of the over 100 stranded pilgrims was confirmed by Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal on his Twitter handle, adding that an inquiry has been initiated against the tour operator whose inefficiency landed them in trouble on foreign lands.

He tweeted, “Good news — our Embassy in Iraq has successfully managed to send all our stranded Zaireen to Pakistan. Welcome home. Inquiry being initiated against the tour operator whose inefficiency led to the problem for Pakistanis – kudos to Amb Sajid Bilal and his team”.

The zaireen were provided with air tickets of a foreign airline by the Pakistan embassy after which the reached Karachi via Dubai today.

The pilgrims had been stranded at the airport of Iraq’s capital when their tour head Shah Khurasan disappeared, leaving them at the airport without tickets.

Later, they appealed to the government for assistance, stating that they have no money for food or to buy the air ticket for return.
