Remembering Majid Khan s first ODI century for Pakistan

LAHORE – On 31st August 1974, Majid Khan, an outclass former cricketer, made history by scoring first ever century in One Day International Cricket for Pakistan against England at Nottingham.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) remembered the outstanding performance of Majid Khan, who was referred as Majestic Khan by the British press, today. It tweeted as, “OnThisDay in 1974, Majid Khan scored Man of the Match award winning 109 off 93 balls at Nottingham against England. This was the first ever ODI century by a Pakistani batsman”.

Born in 1946 in Ludhiana, India, Majid is one of the three players to have scored a century before lunch in a test match. His father, Jahangir Khan, played Test cricket for India before partition.

Majid Khan’s first-class career spanned from 1961 to 1985, and he played 63 Tests for Pakistan, scoring 3,931 runs and making 8 centuries, and scoring over 27,000 first-class runs and making 73 first-class centuries, with 128 fifties.

Majid Khan, who is also a cousin of Prime Minister Imran Khan, was a specialist slip fielder and made most catches in his career.
