Dysfunctional ATM machines irk customers ahead of Eid

LAHORE – With Eid-ul-Fitr is around the corner, people are facing great difficulties in withdrawing money from Automated Teller Machines (ATM), which have been short of cash in major parts of the country.

According to multiple media reports, customers were unable to access their accounts from different bank branches across the country due to a host of different reasons, delaying the receipt of pensions and leaving citizens without the necessary funds to celebrate Eid.

Pensioners have accused bank officials of demanding bribes for the withdrawal of pensions ahead of Eid.

According to a spokesperson of National Bank of Pakistan, all 1,400 branches across the country are burdened today (Saturday) owing to the upcoming Eid but the online link is functional.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has advised all commercial banks to take necessary measures to facilitate the general public, in order to ensure uninterrupted availability of cash at Automated Teller Machine (ATM) machines before and during Eid-ul-Fitr.
