Petition seeking review of Panama verdict filed in SC

ISLAMABAD – A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday seeking a review of Panama verdict that was announced on April 20.

The petition was filed by chairman Watan Party Barrister Zafarullah who in his petition argued that the apex court should order the formation of judicial commission instead of Joint Investigation Team.

It also urged the court to expunge remarks like ‘Godfather’ used in the judgement.

It bears mentioning that the five-member bench in its 3-2 judgement on April 20 ordered the formation of a Joint Investigation team tasked to probe money trail of Sharif Family.

The judgement also quoted the famous novel of Mario Puzo ‘Godfather’ and bore a line: “Behind every great fortune, there’s a crime.”

Meanwhile, the apex court has received the names of officials from six departments for the JIT and the investigations are expected to begin in a matter of few days. A special section has also been constituted in the Supreme Court to oversee the Panama case.

The JIT would complete its findings within 60 days and would report to the apex court fortnightly about the progress made in due course of time.
