Policemen suspended for assaulting Karachi citizen filming VIP protocol

KARACHI – An Assistant Sub Inspector and a Constable were suspended on Tuesday after a video of them assaulting a commoner sparked outrage.

The suspension came after a Karachiite while filming a VIP protocol was slapped and abused by the policemen who were escorting a vehicle on main Shahra-e-Faisal road, near Regent Plaza Hotel.

Sindh IG Allah Dino Khawaja ordered SSP security to take action against police officials involved in physically and verbally abusing a citizen following which ASI Alalh Ditta and constable Shaheen Khan were suspended.

The victim, who kept capturing the protocol after being mistreated uploaded the video on social media, and it ultimately went viral.

The video showed an officer getting off the police van, walking towards the victim’s car, hurling abuses and beating him up for making the video.

“How dare you make a video, your father is going in that car [tera baap ja raha hai],” the policeman could be heard saying in the video.

The man, however, did not stop following the protocol and continued making a video, following which the protocol stopped again and police officials approached him once more.

Taking notice of the incident, AD Khawaja ordered SSP security to be suspended from duty.

“SP Security 1 Malik Ahsan has been appointed as inquiry officer to look into the matter,” said spokesperson for central police office (CPO).
