NEW DELHI – Aging aircraft of Indian air force are prone to crashes due to maintenance issues, technical malfunction, and other issues.
The latest crash occurred with a MiG-29 fighter jet near Barmer in Rajasthan during a routine training mission on night of September 2, 2024.
Details shared by Indian air force said twin engine fighter aircraft MiG-29 witnessed a severe technical malfunction during a night training mission in Barmer sector, which forced pilot to eject.
The pilot remained safe, with no loss of life or property. IAF starts court of inquiry to determine the cause of the crash.
It was reported that Indian force operates three squadrons of MiG-29 UPG aircraft, which were originally acquired from Kremin and have since been upgraded.
In recent times, several Soviet-era Russian fighter jets, MiG-21, were grounded after tragic deaths of several officers in multiple crashes.
