NEPAL (Web Desk) – A 13-year-old Nepali swimmer, Gaurika Singh, is poised to become the youngest Olympian in Rio 2016 when she hits the water on Sunday. The exceptional participation is only imaginatively possible for Pakistanis heading to the same event for mere representation.
The ecstatic swimmer expressed her views regarding her participation in the Rio Olympics.
“That’s quite cool, a bit unreal too,” said Singh, who has broken seven national records.
“I wanted to go but wasn’t sure I’d be able to because I’d be too young. When I found out a month ago, it was a big shock.” She added.
“My dad is coming with me to Rio, and my grandparents and friends at school are really proud but they are really good at their own things,” Singh said.
Over 10,000 athletes from around the world will be trying their luck during this year’s Olympics and Nepal pins much hope on their young swimmer.
Gaurkia is not new to the Olympics world as she broke Nepal’s drought of individual medal at international event, claiming one silver and three bronze medals during the 12th South Asian Games in Assam and Guwahati in India earlier this year.
Her father, Paras, who was a urologist at the Royal Free Hospital in London, said that his daughter is special.
“It’s unbelievable that she’s the youngest Olympian in Rio and amazing how she copes with all the pressure,” Paras added.
