LAHORE – Special Monitoring Unit Punjab launched a crackdown against illegal number plates across the province in a joint initiative with Excise Department.

According to Director General CM’s Strategic Reform Unit Salman Sufi, as many as 260000 illegal number plates were seized amid widespread operation during the second phase of ‘Transport sahulat program’.

‘As part of the operation, those who are manufacturing illegal plates are also targeted’ said Salman Sufi.

The basic aim of the operation is to ensure proper scanning by cameras deployed in different parts of the province as part of ‘Punjab Safe City project’.

Number plates bearing slogans, designations or depicting affiliation with any public, private organisation were seized by the officials and the operation is likely to gain pace in next few days.
