Sofia, who was accompanied by her father, had shouted “Away with the Fascist BJP Government,” inside the aircraft after the plane had landed.

BJP politician Tamilisai Soundararajan then filed a police complaint against the girl.

Tamilisai claimed that Sofia, a student from the University of Montreal in Canada, shouted slogans against the BJP government inside the aircraft.

The police had registered an FIR under two sections of the TN Police Act and the Indian Penal Code for causing a public nuisance. She was produced before a judge, who remanded to 15 days of judicial custody.

The girl has been granted bail after she was kept in the police station for inquiry for hours and later admitted to a hospital on account of her ill health.
