LAHORE – Punjab’s Law Minister Rana Sanaullah claimed on Tuesday that the Baqar Najafi judicial commission report regarding the Model Town incident was legally ineffective adding that not a single word in the report put the blame on the Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, hours after the Lahore High Court gave a 30-days deadline to make the report public, the politician expressed that the report was full of defects adding that the report was being made public on the directives of the chief minister.
‘According to the report, I am blamed for ordering the removal of barricades outside the Model Town incident’ said the minister and added that the report which was uploaded on the website of Directorate General Public Relations, could not be presented as a testimony.

He went on and said that the workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek which were branded as ‘oppressed’ by Dr. Tahir ul Qadri were actually assembled to attack the police officials.
The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz leader alleged that the confrontation was stirred by the workers of PAT as ‘they wanted some dead bodies for Aug 14th’.

The minister continued that the court had directed the government to make the report public within a span of 30 days but hastened to add that no government official was blamed for the killings in the report.
He also clarified that the Punjab government would not challenge the verdict given by the Lahore High Court.
‘The judicial commission report contains one-sided evidence and the report of agencies was not attached with it’ said the minister who was forced to leave the office after the Model Town killings.
He went a mile more and claimed that the Baqar Najafi report entrusted Dr Tahir Ul Qadri to decide who was behind the June 17 incident.
‘Justice Baqar Najafi’s report will not increase the problems of the Punjab government at all’ claimed the politician.
‘It would be appropriate to forward the report to the one-man inquiry tribunal which should decide on the matter’ added the minister.
The lawmaker observed that the government feared that the PAT would use the report for its ambitions declaring that the matter was being politicised.
