MUMBAI (Web Desk) – Pakistani born singer Adnan Sami Khan, who was granted Indian citizenship on January 1, is now all jubilant being an Indian national and believes that “It was destiny who always wanted him to be an Indian.”
In interview with an Indian daily the singer related his date of birth with India’s independence day saying “It could have been 14th, but no I was born on August 15.”
He went on to say that God made sure that I was born on August 15, and hence my quest was always in my destiny.
To a question he said that when you want something you become child for sometime to get it, and this is what I did.
The good luck smiled at me on the last day of 2015, making it like somebody just hit a big six on the last ball of match, he added.
Adnan Sami was granted citizenship under law of neutralisation lieu of his distinguished service to the cause of art.
The singer had formally filed an application with Indian government seeking citizenship of the country after having given up Pakistani nationality. Pakistani authorities also cancelled his passport in November this year.
Adnan Sami Khan had not renewed his Pakistani passport since 2012 and was residing in India for over a decade.
A foreigner is eligible to receive citizenship under the Indian Citizenship Act, provided he has delivered eminent service to the cause of science/technology, philosophy, art, literature, world peace or human progress.
