Samsung to launch first foldable smartphone next year

SEOUL – Smartphone manufacturer Samsung has reportedly to launch the much-hyped foldable smartphone in February 2018 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

According to the report by Korean news outlet, The Bell says the South-Korean company has asked its suppliers to start supplying display components for its foldable smartphone by November.

Furthermore, Samsung has also changed code name for the upcoming smartphone from Valley to Winner, which experts say is an indication the project has moved beyond the development phase and nearing release.

There’s also news on the form factor of the device, the new report suggests it’s going to be made up of three 3.5-inch displays, so users can fold it like a book, open it like a tablet, and still see one of the screens when the device is closed up.

The report also claims that Samsung is likely going to launch the Galaxy S10 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) will be held in Las Vegas from January 8-11 next year.

Samsung hasn’t used the CES stage to launch new flagship smartphones in recent years. It does make an appearance at the trade show but largely focuses on other consumer electronics products like home appliances.
