ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court on Tuesday turned down a request submitted by a sitting judge of the Islamabad High Court judge to halt proceedings of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) against him.
A five-member bench, headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmad, heard the petition filed by Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui asking the court to conduct a public trial in a case pending with the SJC against him.
He had also asked the court to suspend the proceedings until a decision is made on his plea for open trial.
A complaint lodged by a former employee of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) raising issue over the renovation of Siddiqui’s official residence beyond entitlement is pending with the SJC.
Justice Gulzar while rejecting the Siddiqui’s plea remarked that the court wanted to hear a complete case instead of bits and pieces, adding that the court wanted to announce the verdict as soon as possible.
“This is not the kind of case where a stay order is issued and then the whole case is buried,” Dawn News quoted Justice Ahmed.
Justice Azmat Saeed also endorsed these remarks saying there is no need for a stay order.
The apex court has adjourned the case until Wednesday.
