ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Australian High Commissioner in Pakistan Margaret Adamson has said that Pakistan’s fight against violent extremism is vital for regional and global security.
In an interview with Radio Pakistan, she said the people of Pakistan and its security forces had rendered immense sacrifices while combating violent extremism, which had been acknowledged by entire global community.
The Australian High Commissioner said Operation Zarb-e-Azb is not only vital for Pakistan’s peace and security but for the region and beyond as well.
Margaret Adamson said Canberra will continue to remain engaged with Islamabad in its efforts to defeat terrorism.
The Australian High Commissioner said there is enormous potential for cooperation between the two countries especially in the fields of trade and economy, education, energy, and dairy and livestock sectors.
She said the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop during her visit to Pakistan last year identified trade as a key area of cooperation.
Margaret Adamson said Pakistan enjoys a strategic location in the region and Australian companies can benefit from the expanding middle class, friendly business practices and a large consumer base of the country.
The High Commissioner said Australian companies are already engaged in infrastructure, energy and power projects in Pakistan. She said her country has a rich experience in mining and they can guide Pakistan’s mining industry, especially in the safety practices and modern mining best practices. She said Pakistan’s textile products have a good market in Australia and their share can be further increased.
To a question, she said Australia and Pakistan already have a strong collaboration in agriculture and dairy sectors and Australian experts can guide Pakistani counterparts in modern practices of agricultural production and livestock farming. They can also impart training to Pakistani professionals in supply, logistics and value chain management.
Australian High Commissioner said there has been a spectacular growth in the number of Pakistani students coming to Australia for education purposes. Australia offers a good education package coupled with rich cultural diversity, freedom and a world class learning environment.
