LAHORE – Dense fog enveloped major cities in Punjab on Sunday and as many as 12 people were killed in road related accidents due to fog including six of a family.
In Multan, a car plunged into a canal on Shujaabad road leaving six dead of a single family. Rescue team arrived at the scene of the accident and took out bodies.
In Vehari, a tractor trolley rammed into a motorcycle, killing two persons on the spot.
A dumper on Sargodha Road near Sillanwali also claimed lives of two brothers whereas four people were left injured in collision between a bus and tractor trolley in Narowal.
The meteorological department has predicted that the foggy conditions would persist over plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during night and morning hours.
Authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travelling besides installing special fog lamps for improved visibility.
According to Met Office, Rain-thunderstorm (snowfall over the hills) is expected at scattered places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan, Bannu, D.I. Khan divisions), FATA, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan while at isolated places in upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Lahore, Faisalabad divisions), Quetta, Zhob divisions and Islamabad in next 10 hours.
