LONDON – A revolutionary ‘frozen vest’ – proven to save heatstroke victims from death – will be trialled this week at the annual Haj pilgrimage to Makkah, the Mail Online reports.
CAERvest was developed by an emergency medicine consultant from Brighton, Britain, and will be employed during the Haj. The polyurethane vest can reduce core body temperature from a potentially fatal 42C (107F) to safe levels in minutes.
An estimated two million visitors are converging on Islam’s holiest city over six days.
“We have already passed the safety approval stage, but the enormous scale of the test at the Haj means it’s trialled in very serious conditions,” said British financier Sir Mark Weinberg, who has backed development of the product.
