Imran Khan s bail in sit-in violence case extended till next year

ISLAMABAD – An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday extended the interim bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan in four cases related to the 2014 sit-in violence.

The lawmaker is nominated in a case regarding the attack on the state television building, Parliament and the then Islamabad SSP Operations Asmatullah Junejo.

During today’s hearing, ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjumand accepted the PTI chief’s request to extend his bail until January 2, 2018.

The bail extension came days after the ATC dismissed Imran’s request to quash the terror charges in the case and initiate proceedings in a civil court.

Previous Hearing

On Monday, the ATC judge turned down Imran Khan’s request regarding clauses of terrorism after his counsel Babar Awan argued that it was everyone’s democratic right to protest for the rights.

‘Using sticks during the protest did not come under terrorism.’ Babar Awan argued.

On the other hand, the prosecution argued that there was evidence that Imran Khan had incited his workers during the sit-ins.
