NEW DELHI – Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan on Monday highlighted the importance of girl education as the first step to empowerment at at an event organissed by Unicef India.
“There is a direct link between a girl being educated and empowered,” said the 37-year-old actress, adding that educating mothers enables them to fulfill their role in a better way.
Kareena’s speech was aimed at discussing the importance of celebrating mothers and their children.

“There is a very important need to stress on the education of a female child. Pregnancy during adolescence puts both the mother and child in danger and proper education will help put a check on it.”
Unicef’s Every Child Alive, which marked Mothers’ Day, is a campaign that supports Unicef’s efforts to eradicate neonatal deaths by 2030 keeping in mind the girl child.
“We need to give more emphasis to a girl’s education. They are the ones who become mothers. They need to be given the right guidance and right education – this is something we all need to look for,” the Bajrangi Bhaijaan star continued.

She also put emphasis on the role fathers take on and even mentioned how husband Saif Ali Khan contributed to the care of her son. “It is said ‘what a mother can do, the father can’t,’ but there are lot of things that a father can do. And I am lucky to get the support from Saif. Even when I was exhausted after giving birth, I still insisted Saif to keep Taimur attached to his chest, give him the kangaroo love.”
She concluded her speech saying that a father’s role is most vital after pregnancy. “We must champion those fathers and give a shout out to them for their support.”
