SRINAGAR (Staff Report) – Amid heavy security and curfew Occupied Jammu and Kashmir has come to a stand still, as Kashmiris observe Black Day on the Indian Independence Day.
Black Day is being observed on the call of Hurriyet leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik and Shabbir Ahmed Shah.
They urged the people to hoist black flags and wear black dresses as a sign of protest against the unjust occupation of Indian forces.
According to Indian media reports, Indian security forces arrested Hurriyet leaders Syed Ali Gilani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq as they were set to lead massive protest rallies in Srinagar.
Hurriyet leaders said in a joint statement, “India had no moral or constitutional justification to celebrate its Independence Day in the disputed territory forcibly occupied by it.”
Jammu and the Valley have been completely shut down. Strict security arrangements have been made within and outside Srinagar’s Bakhshi Stadium where the parade will take place.
All the roads around the Bakshi Stadium have reportedly been sealed for traffic and pedestrian movement. Sharp shooters have also been deployed.
Meanwhile, Kashmir Media Service reported that at least two people have been killed by Indian forces while a group attempted to stage protest rally in Bara Mola area of the occupied valley. Several others were also injured.
It is also worth mentioning here that India forces have invoked a curfew situation in Jammu and Kashmir for the 38th continuous day since they killed pro-freedom fighter Burhan Wani in a targeted operation, The killing had resulted in massive protests across the state.
