NEW DELHI – India is strong enough to defend itself in all spheres against any threat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent said in an Independence Day speech on Tuesday amid prevailing border tension with Beijing, India media reported.
Addressing a crowd at Red Fort in New Delhi, Modi said: “Security is our top priority,” adding, “Be it the sea or the borders, cyber or space ─ in all spheres, India is capable and we are strong enough to overcome those who try to act against our country.”
The stern stance of Modi follows a standoff between China and India over a strategic Himalayan plateau which has been going on for the past two months.
The neighbouring countries indulged in war in 1962 over the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, and are still disputing the territory.
On the other hand, India also have a border row with Pakistan over the disputed territory of Kashmir since partition in 1947 amid prevailing tension at the Line of Control.
‘Surgical Strike’
Referring to the India’s claims regarding surgical strike into Pakistan, PM Modi said that the surgical strike depicted the country’s strength.
He said, “In free India it is very important to protect the country. The surgical strike was a proof to the world about India’s strength.”
“Our soldiers have stood against everything that is against the country such as infiltrators, militants… The world has seen our strength.”
It is important to mention here that Pakistani authorities rejected the claims as an “illusion” .
