Rift appears in joint opposition as PPP refuses to accept Shehbaz Sharif as PM nominee

ISLAMABAD – Cracks begin to appear in the newly formed opposition alliance as the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has sent a clear message that it will not support the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Shehbaz Sharif during elections for the slot of prime minister.

PPP leader Chaudhry Manzoor talking to a private news channel on Wednesday said that his party will not vote for Shehbaz Sharif in the election. He claimed that the PPP had informed the PML-N about the decision three days ago.

Manzoor said that they will support the candidate selected by the joint opposition, as it happened during the National Assembly speaker and deputy speaker election. He added that the party will wait for the PML-N to field another candidate.

Earlier on Wednesday, PPP chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari too hinted that his party would not vote for Shehbaz for prime minister election.

As one of the reporters asked if his party’s parliamentarians will vote for PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif, the PPP chief said that he will ask PML-N to change its PM nominee.

Meanwhile, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif has submitted his nomination papers for the PM slot. Shehbaz Sharif’s nomination papers were submitted by party leaders Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal and Doctor Darshan.
