ISLAMABAD – The Press Information Department of Pakistan deleted one of its tweets made to appreciate the Billion Tree Tsunami project launched by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.
The tweet was made on Tuesday through the handle @pid_gov at a time when the KPK’s government was highlighting the aspects of afforestation at the convention centre Islamabad, however, it was taken down soon, prompting social media users to take a jibe at those responsible for reconsidering the ‘digital decision’.
Mosharraf Zaidi, a political analyst tweeted a screenshot of PID’s tweet and said that the deletion was in bad taste.
There was no word from the PID regarding the ‘U-turn’, however, apparently, it seems that the quintessential rivalry between the ruling party in the province, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the party in centre, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz served as an impetus for the decision.
The Press Information department is a state-owned department of Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage headed by Principal Information officer (PIO).
