Donald Trump vows US, India would be best friends if elected

EDISON, N.J. – US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump vowed that United States and India would be “best friends” if he is elected and that he would boost intelligence sharing with India in battle against militants.

Trump spoke at an event sponsored by the Republican Hindu Coalition to raise money for victims of terrorism. It featured Bollywood-style performers who danced in colourful, traditional costumes.

Terming India a “key strategic ally”, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has promised that India and US would become “best friends” and have a “phenomenal future” together, if voted to power.

“I look forward to working with Prime Minister Modi,” he said, adding that the Indian leader is very energetic.

It was for the first time a presidential candidate attended an Indian American event this election season.
