ECP allows Maryam Nawaz Sharif to keep party designation

ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday has announced its verdict on the petitions seeking disqualification of Maryam Nawaz Sharif from the party office.

Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retired) Muhammad Raza Khan announced the verdict, which allowed Maryam Nawaz to stay on as the Vice president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN).

Earlier on Monday, a three-member commission of the ECP had reserved the verdict.

Today, the ECP dismissed the petition for disqualification which was filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Malika Bukhari, Farrukh Habib and Kanwal Shuzab.

However, the ECP restricted that Maryam Nawaz cannot become the acting president of the party.
